Alpine Tourism in Austria

Just Put on Your Mountain Boots – And Go out into the Nature

Thanks to the almost unspoilt pristine Nature, the summer Alps are among the most beautiful places in the world. In particular, the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee region is sought after by visitors due to its accessibility and the moderate difficulty of the routes. Of course, there are also more challenging routes here for hikers and demanding trekkers.

Mountain hiking in Salzburg Land and also in the whole of Styria is a delight. Here one experiences a totally natural hike, magnificent views of the Austrian Alpine peaks, well-marked routes, refreshing mountain air, landscape diversity, freshness of meadows, breath-taking mountain vistas, waterfalls and lakes. And silence as well. Regardless of the difficulty of a route, one may look forward to incredible views and friendly hospitability in one of the mountain huts. Tours in the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee region are renowned for their offer of unique experiences for everyone.

The most popular tourist destination in the region is the town of Hallstatt situated on the shore of the lake of the same name. Enhance your outing by visiting Salzwelten in Hallstatt and nearby Hallein – the world's oldest salt mines. The Hohe Tauern Austrian National Park is a great attraction, especially due to the Krimml waterfalls (Krimmler Wasserfalle) which are the largest in Europe. A visit to Eagle's Nest should certainly be included in any itinerary. From the altitude of 1 820 metres, there is an incredible view of the whole region. An interesting attraction is the Dachstein mountain range with the highest suspension bridge in Austria (Hängebrücke) and the “Treppe ins Nichts” observation deck (“Stairway to Nowhere”). Do not forget to visit the largest ice cave in the world, Eisriesenwelt in the town of Werfen, as well as the ancient Hohenwerfen Castle with its permanent display of hunting predators. Amongst others, the famous American war film “Where Eagles Don't Fly” was filmed right here.
The spa town of Bad Gastein, whose biggest attraction is Gastein Waterfall, is another interesting destination. The waterfall is located right in the town centre and surrounded by luxury spa hotels.
You will truly fall in love with the Salzburg region. Savour new experiences!
